Who is a BANK PO?

The complete form of Banking PO is Probationary Officer, an assistant manager of Scale I in the banking sector and also called Scale I Officer.A Probationary Officer in a bank generally goes through a probation period of two years in which they will be trained in various areas to manage the daily banking activities of the bank branch in the coming future. After completing two years of training during probation, the candidate is promoted to Assistant Manager in a bank branch. A Bank PO is trained in multiple verticals, such as finance, accounting, billing, investment, etc., during the probation period to acquaint them with various working procedures of the bank. The bank's primary purpose is to provide optimal customer service. Therefore, a Bank PO must ensure that the bank's business keeps increasing by tending to the bank's customers properly by handling customer complaints, addressing various customer-related issues such as account discrepancies, rectifying excessive charges, etc.

   Job Responsibilities of a BANK PO

  • The primary responsibilities of a Bank PO are to take care of general banking activities and administration.
  • Bank PO is responsible for enhancing the business activities of the assigned bank branch.
  • A Bank PO must also manage the cash flow, loans, finances, and mortgages.
  • The Bank PO will be responsible for handling public relations, customer complaints, and most other issues regarding customer satisfaction.
  • A Bank PO will be responsible for managerial work, such as supervising the clerical staff of the branch office.
  • A Bank POwill also be responsible for handling the documents related to loans.

Career Scope of a BANK PO

        The bank's growth is relatively fast. A candidate can jump to Grade II officer within 3-5 years of service. The POs must give a few written examinations and undergo an interview process to get promoted to a higher designation. One can easily switch to Manager, Assistant General Manager, General Manager, etc.

 Salary/Income of a BANK PO

      The basic pay of an IBPS PO is Rs. 23,700 + general expenses such as transport expenses, CCA, HRA, and DA. The total in-hand salary thus amounts to Rs 52,630 to Rs 55,200 per month. The pay is almost the same for the banks' POs.

Qualify the College/University-Specific Entrance Examinations for a Bachelor's Degree Programme   
  • Admission into a Bachelor's degree program course is based on the candidates' performance in the college/university-specific examination (if specified). Although however, it may vary from college to college, so check about the particular college rules and regulations before applying.

 

 

Enroll for a Bachelor's Degree Programme   
  • To become a BANK PO (Probationary officer), a candidate should hold a graduation degree in any specialization from a recognized university.
  • This graduation degree will be of 3 or 4 years duration.

 

Register and Qualify IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) PO Exam   
  • To become a BANK PO, the candidate has to register and qualify IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) PO Exam.
  • IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) PO Exam is conducted annually by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection.
  • This exam is conducted in 2 phases:Preliminary examination and Main examination. 
  • The pre-Exam is conducted in August, and the main exam is in September for those students who have qualified pre-exam.
  • The candidate should be between 21 and 30, on the first day of the month the course starts. The upper age limit will be relaxed by three years for OBC candidates and five years for SC/ST candidates.

Qualify Interview (Bank PO)   
    • After Qualifying for the IBPS written main exam, the candidate will go for the Interview to test the candidate's personality and mental ability, such as intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, observation powers, judgment ability, etc. Candidates who clear the Interview will get a chance to feature in the merit list.
    • The merit list is based on the marks scored by candidates in IBPS written Exam and Interview. The final selection of training candidates will be based on this merit list and the vacancy for the BANK PO.

Go for the Training (Bank PO)   
  • After final selection, the candidate will be provisionally selected in one of the Participating Organizations based on category-wise merit preference, Govt. reservation policies, various guidelines issued by Govt. of India/Others from time to time, etc
