• Admission into the Bachelor of Performing Arts (B.P.A.) in Dance course is based on the candidates’ performance in the university-specific examination (if specified).However, it may vary from college to college; check the particular college rules and regulations before applying.

• To become a CHOREOGRAPHER, a candidate should hold a graduation degree in Bachelor of Performing Arts (B.P.A.) in Dance / B.F.A. (Bachelor of Fine Arts)/B.V.A. (Bachelor of Visual Arts)B.V.A. (Bachelor of Visual Arts), etc.
• A candidate should have talent, but talent alone cannot guarantee success. Candidates must have the self-discipline to rehearse and practice to improve their performances.
• The Bachelor of Performing Arts (B.P.A.) in Dance is a 3-year undergraduate program.

• During the course, grab as many opportunities for internships or project works as a candidate can. These help the candidate gain insights into the kinds of tasks that can expect to perform in the future. The duration of the internship would be the choice of the candidate.
• After getting some experience, the candidate can take up the role of assistant choreographer and then become a senior choreographer. Assistant choreographers help to rehearse the moves and give their input on what steps would fit without forcing the entire creative burden on the choreographer.

Who is a Choreographer?

      A choreographer dances, designs, and directs dance routines. Professional choreographers not only invent and perfect dance moves, but dance choreographers also practice them to make sure that they coordinate with music and provide entertainment for the audience. The word “choreography" comes from Greek words meaning “dance writing." Candidates as a choreographer create and direct original dances. Choreographer dances and utilizes his or her creativity in other aspects of dance performance. A choreographer tries to make dance moves that are in perfect time with the music. The routine created by a choreography should be pleasurable for both the audience and the performers. 

Job Responsibilities of a Choreographer

• The main job of a choreographer is to create new steps that fit the mood, music, and theme and are audience-appropriate.
• Choreographers support, guide, and explain all steps and formations to dancers.
• A choreographer is also involved in conducting dance auditions and selecting good dancers.
• A choreographer is also involved in choosing the music on which the dance is to be performed. This is selected as per the mood of the event.

Career Scope of a Choreographer

There are many career options once a candidate completes graduation in Dance. 

• A candidate can get employed in various professions as a Dance Instructor, Dance Teacher, Rehearsal Director, Dance Assistant, etc.
• A Choreographer has a wide range of available job opportunities. Some jobs include schools/colleges, Dance schools, institutes, Film Industry, Television, Movie Production houses, etc.
• Candidates can also work as a freelancer and start up their dance academies.

Salary/Income of a Choreographer

The salary of a choreographer depends on the type of industry that they work for. An entry-level choreographer can earn an average wage of  ₹ 2 lakhs per year. Conversely, a senior-level choreographer with experience can earn an average salary of  ₹ 6 lakhs per year.
