Who is a Gynecologist

A gynecologist is a doctor who specializes in female reproductive health. Gynecologists diagnose and treat issues related to the female reproductive tract. This includes the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and breasts. Gynecologists give reproductive and sexual health services, including pelvic exams, Pap tests, cancer screenings, and testing and treatment for vaginal infections. In addition, gynecologists diagnose and treat reproductive system disorders such as endometriosis, infertility, ovarian cysts, and pelvic pain. Gynecologists may also care for people with ovarian, cervical, and other reproductive cancers. Some gynecologists also practice as obstetricians, who give care during pregnancy and birth. If a gynecologist has expertise in obstetrics, they’re called an OB-GYN.

  • The primary duties of the gynecologist are diagnosing medical issues, examining patients & cure different illnesses and diseases. In addition, you have to treat pregnant women & their newborn children.
  • A gynecologist treats gynecological diseases, infertility, Amenorrhea (absent menstrual periods), Dysmenorrhea (painful menstrual periods), hysterectomy, Incontinence of urine, issues related to pregnancy, Infections of the vagina (vaginitis), cervix and uterus (including fungal, bacterial, viral, and protozoal). 
  • Gynecologists are also sometimes certified as obstetricians and will monitor the health of the mother and the fetus during pregnancy.

Career Scope of a Gynecologist

  • Once candidates complete their master’s (MD) in Obstetrics and Gynecology, candidates have numerous options of either joining government hospitals or ever-increasing private hospitals; in addition, candidates can also set up care centers and work independently.

Salary/Income of a Gynecologist

The salary of a Gynecologist largely depends upon the standard and level of the organization/Hospital that the candidate is associated with, especially at the starting level.The starting salary of a gynecologist ranges from Rs. 4 to 5 lacs per annum. The experienced gynecologist may earn from 15 lakhs to 20 lakhs per annum.Government hospital salaries are based on the pay scale and grade the government decides. However, there is no upper-income limit for enterprising gynecologists who opt to open up their Centers.

Register and Qualify NEET( National Eligibility Entrance Exam)   
  • To get admission into the MBBS course, candidates have to register and qualify National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET).
  • National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET) exam is conducted annually by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in May/June.
  • The candidate should be of 17 years of age at the time of admission.

Enroll for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) for Gynecologist   
  • To become a GYNECOLOGIST, the candidate should hold an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree recognized by the Medical Council of India.
Go for the Internship (Doctor)   
  • After completing 4.5 years of the MBBS program, candidates must complete a one-year hospital internship in internal medicine or family practice. During internship and residency, the student is subject to be posted in multiple clinical departments on a rotatory basis to learn the necessary clinical experience in all the major disciplines. Completing the rotatory internship is a prerequisite for obtaining a medical license. Also, a Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is a necessary eligibility criterion for pursuing post-graduation studies.
  • Candidates can work under a team of top doctors during their internship. The candidates have a chance to work with patients who require different diagnoses. The candidates must gain good knowledge and skills when completing their internship.
Enroll for Postgraduate Program of MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Obstetrics and Gynecology   
  • After completing MBBS, candidates must take the NEET PG entrance test for admission into a postgraduate degree, i.e., MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
