Who is a Journalist?

      A Journalist is an individual that gathers information and presents the information in an accurate, honest, and fair way to the general public so that the public can be informed. Without journalists, the public might never be able to know what is going on in the world around them. The act or process mainly done by the Journalist is called Journalism. There are different kinds of journalists. A reporter is a type of Journalist who researches, writes, and reports information. For example, newspaper reporters write news articles and stories for newspapers. They write these articles and stories by interviewing, asking questions, and researching. 

 Job Responsibilities of a Journalist

  • The Journalist’s primary responsibility is to serve the public interest by reporting the news.
  • Journalists also have legal responsibilities.
  • Ethical responsibility is also another significant responsibility of a journalist.
  • The Journalist has the duty of protecting his sources.
  • The Journalist has the duty of reviewing and editing work for editorial approval.
  • The journalists keep up-to-date on the latest news developments by attending events and studying different papers, opinion pieces, and social media.

Career Scope of a Journalist

      In the Private Sector: 

  • There are many career options once a candidate graduates in journalism. In addition, different fields of study have diverse job opportunities in other areas.
  • Some employment areas are TV channels, Newspapers, Radio stations, Media houses, PR and media management agencies, Online web content creation, Digitals firms, Reporters, Editors, Correspondents, Journalist, News Editor, Content Writer, news channels, newspaper and news agencies.
  • Candidates can also get the chance to get jobs with news channels such as NDTV, Discovery, BBC, and CNN and with leading newspapers such as The Times of India, the Indian Express, and The Economic Times.
  • Candidates can also pursue higher education in journalism and consider a teaching career in the same field. There is various postgraduate journalism course that a candidate can opt for this.

      Journalism is one of the highest-paying careers globally, where the average starting salary ranges from INR 1.80 - 2.20 LPA. However, with gradual experience and knowledge, the candidate can earn as much as INR 27 LPA.

Qualify and Enroll in College/University-Specific Entrance Examinations for ‘Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication’   
  • Admission into the ‘Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication course is based on the candidates’ performance in the university-specific examination (if specified).However, it may vary from college to college; check the particular college rules and regulations before applying.

 

Enroll for Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication or many more programs   
  • To become a JOURNALIST, a candidate should hold a graduation degree in journalism, such as a BA in Journalism/BA in Journalism and Mass Communication/Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication/Bachelor of Mass Media and Journalism/Bachelor of Communication and Journalism/B.Sc. in Journalism and Mass Communication/BA in Media and Communication/BA in Media Studies/BA in Mass Communication/Bachelor of Mass Media/BBA in Mass Communication and Journalism or enroll in Diploma in Journalism.
