       A meteorologist is a scientist who studies and works in meteorology, aiming to understand or predict Earth's atmospheric phenomena, including the weather. Those who study meteorological phenomena are meteorologists in research, while those using mathematical models and knowledge to prepare daily weather forecasts are called weather forecasters or operational meteorologists.Meteorologist , also known as the Atmospheric Scientist, is a professional who is an expert in the scientific study of the earth's atmosphere and its changes, used especially for forecasting weather, especially rains, storms, snowfalls, etc. 

Job Responsibilities of a Meteorologist

  • The prime responsibility of a Meteorologist is to do a scientific study of the earth's atmosphere and its changes, used primarily for forecasting weather, especially rains, storms, snowfalls, etc. 
  • Meteorologists also analyze and record data from global weather stations, satellites, and radars.
  • Meteorologists make interpretations from the land, sea, and atmosphere patterns.
  • Meteorologists also provide weather reports.
  • Meteorologists research and predict climate changes.
  • Meteorologists improve weather prediction models.

Career Scope of a Meteorologist

The meteorologist has several career opportunities in private and public sector organizations. The meteorologist can also work in the public sector, government agencies like defense forces, the aviation industry, and many private organizations like news channels, sports federations, etc. But, most meteorologists can get employment in the government sector.

 In India, various government organizations provide opportunities for Meteorologist are:

  • Indian Meteorology Department (IMD)
  • Indian Air Force
  • National Remote Sensing Agency
  • Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)

Salary/Income of a Meteorologist

      At an entry level, a Meteorologist can earn approximately Rs. 3.50 lacs to 5 lacs per year. Although there is no maximum salary limit for Meteorologist, Meteorologist can surpass the limits with good experience in the relevant field.
