Who is a Photographer?

      With their creativity and upscaled professional skills, photographers are skilled professionals who click images and photographs, narrating stories and discussing events unfolding. Photography is not restricted to any particular sector but has scope across various ambits such as Wildlife Photography, Fashion Photography, Wedding Photography, Advertising Photography, and many more. Photography can be described as the art and science of taking photographs and processing them. It involves equipment such as cameras, lenses, computer software (for image processing and editing), etc. The job of a photographer is exciting and creative at the same time. This profession has evolved and has undergone significant changes. A photographer may work independently or as a staff photographer for setups like NEWS papers, magazines, websites, companies, etc.

 Job Responsibilities of a Photographer

  • The prime duty of a Photographer is to capture the infinite spectrum of people and places or to explore familiar objects from strange angles.
  • A Photographer acquires and positions props required for photo shoots to capture an image naturally.
  • A Photographer prepares for photo shoots that involve searching for locations, renting photographic or background equipment, designing the scene, and scheduling photo sessions.

  • A photographer has a wide range of available job opportunities. Some jobs include editing for films, documentaries, television shows, and commercials.

An entry-level Photographer can earn an average salary of  ₹ 2.5 lakhs per year. Conversely, a senior-level Photographer with experience can earn an average wage of  ₹ 5 lakhs per year.

Qualify the College/University-Specific Entrance Examinations for Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Photography or many more programs   
  • Admission into the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Photography course is based on the candidates’ performance in the university-specific examination (if specified).However, it may vary from college to college; check the particular college rules and regulations before applying.

  • To become a PHOTOGRAPHER, a candidate should hold a graduation degree in BA in Photography/ Diploma in Photography/ Certificate in Photography.
  • A candidate should have talent, but talent alone cannot guarantee success. In addition, candidates must be disciplined to rehearse and practice to improve their performances.
  • The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Photography is a 3-year undergraduate program, the Diploma in Photography is one year and six months in duration, Certificate in Photography is six months to 1 year.
Go for the Internship (Photographer)   
  • During the course, grab as many opportunities for internships or project works as a candidate can. These help the candidate gain insights into the kinds of tasks that can expect to perform in the future. The duration of the internship would be the choice of the candidate.
  • Candidates must keep themselves open to prospects in all entertainment media, be it through Television Centers, News channels, film and music video industries, advertising agencies, multimedia, web design companies, and internet portals, to name a few.
