Who is a Plastic Surgeon? 

A Plastic Surgeon is a licensed medical doctor trained in patient interactions, trauma care, basic surgery techniques, and specialized areas, such as tissue transfer, body contouring, and laser surgery.A plastic Surgeon is a qualified and trained medical professional to perform Plastic/Cosmetic surgery on his patients to repair their skin and structural problems. Many plastic surgeons choose to become cosmetic surgeons and do procedures to change a patient's appearance or aesthetic. But not all plastic surgeons are also cosmetic surgeons. Plastic Surgeons use various techniques and surgical procedures like mastectomy, contracture surgery for burn victims, sexual reassignment surgery, Rhinoplasty, Abdominoplasty, Augmentation Mammoplasty, Chemical peel, Collagen injections, etc., to name a few to treat their patients.

  • A Plastic Surgeon's primary duty is to operate on the patients and make a particular desired part of their body more visually appealing. 
  • Plastic Surgeon Perform invasive surgeries to correct physical deformities in patients.
  • Plastic Surgeons carry out surgical and non-surgical procedures to enhance patients' outward appearance. 
  • Plastic Surgeons insert implants or plates to support the bone structure and take skin grafts to repair muscle/skin damage resulting from burns.

Career Scope of aPlastic Surgeon

  • Once candidates complete their M.S., they have numerous options of joining the government or ever-increasing private hospitals. 
  • Some Plastic Surgeons can also find lucrative placements with considerable salaries in corporate hospitals and the Research field.
  • General surgeons can work in hospitals as visiting surgeons.

Salary/Income of a Plastic Surgeon

The salary of a Plastic Surgeon largely depends upon the standard and level of the organization/Hospital they are associated with, especially at the starting level. The starting salary of aPlastic Surgeon ranges from Rs. 5 to 8 lakhs per annum. Therefore, the experienced Plastic Surgeon may earn from Rs. 8 lakhs to 12 lakhs per annum.Government hospital salaries are based on the pay scale and grade the government decides. However, there is no upper-income limit for enterprising Plastic Surgeons who opt to open their Clinics.

Register and Qualify NEET( National Eligibility Entrance Exam)   
  • To get admission into the MBBS course, candidates have to register and qualify National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET).
  • National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET) exam is conducted annually by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in May/June.
  • The candidate should be of 17 years of age at the time of admission.

Enroll for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) for General Surgeon   
  • To become a GENERAL SURGEON, the candidate should hold an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree recognized by the Medical Council of India.
Go for the Internship (Doctor)   
  • After completing 4.5 years of the MBBS program, candidates must complete a one-year hospital internship in internal medicine or family practice. During internship and residency, the student is subject to be posted in multiple clinical departments on a rotatory basis to learn the necessary clinical experience in all the major disciplines. Completing the rotatory internship is a prerequisite for obtaining a medical license. Also, a Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is a necessary eligibility criterion for pursuing post-graduation studies.
  • Candidates can work under a team of top doctors during their internship. The candidates have a chance to work with patients who require different diagnoses. The candidates must gain good knowledge and skills when completing their internship.
Enroll for Postgraduate Program of MS (Master of surgery) in Plastic Surgery   
  • After completing MBBS, candidates must take the NEET PG entrance test for admission into a postgraduate degree, i.e., M.S.

  • Studying for an M.S. requires three years of college dedication and clinical experience.

 

Register with Medical Council of India for License (Plastic Surgeon)   
  • After an internship, the candidate must register with the Medical Council of India. To register with the Medical Council of India., the candidate must have an MBBS degree, one year of internship, and an MS PG Degree. Registering with the country's medical council to start practicing as a General Surgeon is essential.
  • After registering with the Medical Council of India, candidates can begin their careers and practice as General Surgeons in India.
