Who is a Police Inspector?

A police officer whose rank comes under an inspector or some head constables is a sub-inspector of police. Sub-inspector is the lowest-ranking officer who can file a charge sheet in court under Indian police rules and regulations. Subordinates can only investigate a case on behalf of a sub-inspector and cannot file a charge sheet. Sub-inspector ranking is above an Assistant sub-inspector and below the inspector. Most candidates, who have higher educational qualifications than other low-ranking police officers, are directly selected for the post of sub-inspector of police. In this case, the chosen direct sub-inspector is mentioned as the principal sub-inspector/police inspector.

Sub-inspector position is a non-gazette police officer, and the selected candidate for this post can get a pay scale of Rs.9300-34800 plus grade pay of Rs.4600/- and other allowances as per government rules.

Register for Staff Selection Commission Central Police Organization Exam (SSC CPO)   
  • To become a POLICE INSPECTOR, the candidate has to register and qualify for Staff Selection Commission Central Police Organization exam (SSC CPO), which is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission(SSC).
  • The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts this exam every year.
  • The candidate should be between 20-25 years of age.
  • This exam consists of Written Examination, Physical Endurance Test, and Medical Test.
  • The written exam will consist of two papers: paper 1(MCQ) and paper 2 (MCQ).

Qualify Paper 1 of Written Examination   
  • Paper 1 includes a written test that takes approximately two hours to complete. The paper focuses on general intelligence and reasoning, general knowledge and awareness, quantitative aptitude, and English comprehension.
  • Questions in paper one will be of Objective Multiple Choice Type.

 

 

Qualify Physical Endurance Test (PET)/ Physical Standard Test (PST)   
  • After qualifying for paper 1, the candidate will go for the PET/PST. This test is taken to check the physical fitness and endurance of candidates. This test includes race, long jump, high jump, and chin-ups. 
Qualify Paper 2 of Written Examination   
  • Paper 2 includes multiple-choice questions that assess the candidate's vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.
  • Paper 2 will only be evaluated by shortlisted candidates who qualify for PST/PET.
  • Candidates shortlisted for PET/Medical Examination based on their performance in Paper 1 will only be called for Paper 2. Paper 2 of only such candidates who qualify in PST/PET will be evaluated.

 

 

Qualify Medical Test and Interview (Police Inspector/Officer)   
  • All the candidates who qualify for the PET will be medically examined by the Medical Officer of any Central/State Govt. Hospital or Dispensary.
  • After qualifying for all the stages, the candidate will go for the Interview to test the candidate's personality and mental ability, such as the candidate's brain ability, personality, leadership skills, stress handling, administration skills, decision-making skills, interpersonal skills, etc. are tested. Candidates who clear the interview part will get a chance to feature in the merit list.
  • The merit list is based on the marks scored by candidates in SSC Written Exam, PST, Medical test, and Interview. The final selection of candidates for training will be made based on this merit list.The candidate will be appointed sub-inspector, depending on the vacancy.
  • After gaining experience, the candidate can be appointed as Police Inspector.

 

 

Go for the Training (Police Inspector/Officer)   
  • After qualifying for all the stages, the candidate will attend the training. Training will be for 12 months. This training includes:
