Who is a Radiologist

A radiologist is a licensed medical professional specializing in medical imaging, like X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, and MRIs, to detect, diagnose and treat health problems. Radiology is a branch of paramedical science that deals with diagnosing diseases with the help of technology and diagnostic tests in medical treatment using radiation and imaging of the inner organ systems in the human body. A radiologist collaborates with doctors and is integral to the medical diagnosis. Radiologists use radiography to diagnose a patient's illness or injury with technology precisely. Radiologists use a variety of imaging techniques to diagnose and treat diseases, including X-rays, ultrasound, Computed Tomography (CT), and nuclear medicine, such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

JobResponsibilities of a Radiologist

  • A radiologist's primary duty is to diagnose the illness and disease.
  • Radiologists review and interpret medical images to determine patient status and future medical care.
  • Radiologists determine the exact images required for diagnosis and deliver orders to Radiological Technicians.
  • Radiologists administer trace amounts of radioactive substances to create and enhance diagnostic images.
  • The Radiologist performs minimally invasive surgical techniques such as embolization, angioplasty, and ablation with image guidance.
  • Radiologists also work with Primary Care Doctors, Nurses, and Radiology Technicians to administer treatment and manage pain.

Career Scope of a Radiologist

  • Once candidates complete an MD in Radiology, candidates have numerous options of either joining government hospitals or ever-increasing private hospitals. In addition, candidates can also set up care centers and work independently.
  • Some Radiologists can also opt for teaching jobs in different medical schools and colleges and teach their students basic techniques and treatments

Salary/Income of a Radiologist

The salary of a Radiologist largely depends upon the standard and level of the organization/Hospital candidate is associated with, especially at the starting level. The starting salary of aRadiologist ranges from Rs. 4 to 7 lacs per annum. The experienced Radiologist may earn from Rs. 10 lakhs to 12 lakhs per annum.Government hospital salaries are based on the pay scale and grade the government decides. However, there is no upper-income limit for enterprising Radiologists who open their Care Centers.

Register and Qualify NEET( National Eligibility Entrance Exam)   
  • To get admission into the MBBS course, candidates have to register and qualify National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET).
  • National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET) exam is conducted annually by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in May/June.
  • The candidate should be of 17 years of age at the time of admission.

Enroll for MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) for Radiologist   
  • To become a RADIOLOGIST, the candidate should hold an MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) degree recognized by the Medical Council of India.
Go for the Internship (Doctor)   
  • After completing 4.5 years of the MBBS program, candidates must complete a one-year hospital internship in internal medicine or family practice. During internship and residency, the student is subject to be posted in multiple clinical departments on a rotatory basis to learn the necessary clinical experience in all the major disciplines. Completing the rotatory internship is a prerequisite for obtaining a medical license. Also, a Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is a necessary eligibility criterion for pursuing post-graduation studies.
  • Candidates can work under a team of top doctors during their internship. The candidates have a chance to work with patients who require different diagnoses. The candidates must gain good knowledge and skills when completing their internship.
Enroll for Postgraduate Program of MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Radiology   
  • After completing MBBS, the candidate has to give the NEET PG entrance test for admission into a postgraduate degree, i.e., MD in Radiology.

To register with the Medical Council of India., the candidate must have an MBBS degree, one year of internship, and an MD PG in Radiology. It is essential to register with the country's medical council to start practicing as a Nephrologist.
